Car insurance for young drivers could be pricey at university, says moneysupermarket.com

Students heading off to their respective universities may wish to think twice about bringing their car with them, according to a representative from moneysupermarket.com.

Steve Sweeney, head of car insurance at the price comparison site, explained that there is a significant difference in price between leaving a vehicle in a suburban property and parking it at city centre student accommodation.

Figures released by moneysupermarket.com indicate that individuals could pay up to £3,000 more for their policy over the duration of a university course.

Mr Sweeney encouraged students to shop around to be sure that they are getting the best deal possible and saving money if they can.

"Those who do decide to take their cars with them should notify their insurer so they can amend their policy details to reflect their change in living situation," he added.

Last week, the website announced that availability of RSA echoice car insurance, which is available exclusively on moneysupermarket.com and echoice.com.
