AA suggests policy change should encourage debt relief

A senior figure at AA Financial Services has highlighted how the firm has implemented a change in payment policy four months ahead of when new regulations come into force in the UK.

Director of the company Mark Huggins made his comments regarding the decision by the company to allow payments to credit cards to be used to pay off the most expensive debts first.

"This is a vital step towards helping millions of cardholders to manage their debt. It is a change that the AA wholeheartedly endorses," he remarked.

Mr Huggins pointed out that customers at the AA will be able to enjoy this change in the way payments are applied to credit card balances earlier than individuals with many other providers, since the voluntary changes to consumers' rights do not come into effect until January 2011.

Last month, the AA unveiled a new online credit card, which will offer applicants nine months interest-free on balance transfers and 12 months interest-free on purchases.
