F&C highlights trend relating to investment savings accounts

Parents should keep faith with long-term investment in risk assets, according to a representative from F&C.

Mike Woodward, head of investment trusts at the company, noted that it is a vital time for people to find new ways of saving cash for their children, now that the government has called time on the Child Trust Fund.

He pointed out that it has been a tough decade with regard to equity markets, but parents must be wary of losing out on returns.

Mr Woodward said: "Most of all, we hope that the demise of the Child Trust Fund scheme will not dent the future financial prospects of a new generation of children."

However, he noted how individuals put aside money for their youngsters before this project was put in place, so there is no reason to think they will not do the same after it is over.

Last week, F&C announced that private equity funds at the firm have been boosted by a succession of realisations by the organisation.
