NFU Mutual warns consumers over cheap car insurance for young drivers

Buying cheap car insurance for young drivers may end up being a false economy, according to an NFU Mutual representative.

Jeremy Parker, an agent at the company's London office, described how a person's cover can let them down at a crucial moment if they have filled in a form incorrectly or the limitations of protection are not properly explained.

"Many drivers come to us for advice because they don't understand what they are buying online or over the phone," he remarked.

Mr Parker gave the example of a couple who had an accident recently and discovered they did not have a courtesy car available to them.

When asked why, they were told they had failed to tick a certain box during the application process.

NFU Mutual recently offered some home insurance advice to students, suggesting that they could save money by checking to see if their parents' cover extends to them while they are away at university.
