Motorists with car insurance for young drivers urged to check brake lights

Consumers with car insurance for young drivers have been encouraged to check whether their brake lights are in full working order.

According to Ron Waldock, an independent RAC inspector at Carsite.co.uk, drivers are likely to face more hazardous road conditions over the coming months.

This, he said, is because the clocks are about to go back, while the nights are drawing in for autumn and winter.

Mr Waldock has therefore reminded motorists that they need to be seen by other road users when it is dark.

"Our advice would be to regularly check that all your lights are clean and working correctly to make sure you are as visible as possible," he commented.

He was speaking after research by Carsite.co.uk revealed that about one in 15 cars, motorcycles, vans and lorries are missing at least one brake light.

This follows a BBC News report which revealed that officials from Northampton Borough Council recently carried out a spot check of taxis in the area and took one off the road for having no brake lights.
