NS&I applauds singles for use of savings accounts

Single people - as opposed to those in a relationship - have been praised by NS&I for their savings habits.

Tim Mack, savings spokesperson for the company, highlighted how the firm's research showed such individuals tend to put more money aside.

According to a report, single people try to save 18.07 per cent on average, while their counterparts in relationships aim for 14.71 per cent.

Mr Mack pointed out that many of those people help themselves to build up cash by utilising a goal, with 31 per cent of singles using this technique.

"It's great to see that single people are saving a larger percentage of their income by setting themselves specific savings goals," he said.

This month, NS&I announced that its premium bonds millionaire for October is a woman from Bristol, who told the institution she is "overjoyed" to have won.

The firm revealed that it handed over more than £52 million as a result of the month's draw.
