Pension calculator may be boosted by work after 65, says Friends Provident

Friends Provident has lauded the positive aspects of working after the default retirement age of 65.

Trevor Matthews, chief executive officer of the institution, made his remarks after the organisation found that 51 per cent of Brits would like to be employed after this time in order to stay active.

He pointed out that definitions of what it means to be old or retired are constantly evolving and will no doubt be completely different in a decade's time.

Mr Matthews pointed out that working after retirement could allow people to supplement their pension income and position themselves at the centre of a community.

"It is important to recognise that although our ageing society creates a number of challenges, there are also many positive factors to consider," he added.

Head of pensions marketing at Friends Provident Martin Palmer recently pointed out that people should see retirement as a process, rather than a one-off event.
