Young women must think about pension calculator, says Scottish Widows

Scottish Widows has urged more women to think about their financial future and put money aside for their pension.

Head of pensions market development at the company Ian Naismith described how previous generations have seen ladies become more independent, but this does not seem to be the case with young females nowadays.

His remarks were made after research by the firm showed that 51 per cent of women are putting aside an adequate amount of money for when they retire.

"The findings relating to this year's report paint a worrying picture. Women are saving less than they were a year ago and younger women are saving the least," said Mr Naismith.

In his view, this latter point is especially important because people tend to develop habits when they are young and stick to them for the rest of their lives.

This month, Scottish Widows published a report showing that British adults are also not exercising enough, with 45 per cent of people not partaking in any active hobby at all.
