Three pension calculator recommendations proposed by Axa

Axa has put forward three suggestions regarding retirement planning to help tackle the savings gap in the UK.

Mike Morrison, head of pensions development at the firm, suggested their implementation could help create a more sustainable financial culture in the country.

The company wants a universal state pension introduced in place of a means-tested policy, while it would also like to see more incentives for long-term savings offered by the government.

Finally, Axa urged the state to carry out a full review of the system to explore how saving can be encouraged from a young age.

"If we're going to get Britain really tackling the savings gap, especially once in retirement, then we need much closer collaboration across the industry," Mr Morrison added.

Last month, Mr Morrison called on companies in the pensions sector to work alongside consumer groups and universities among other organisations to ensure young people receive the financial education they need on the topic.
