Retirement is a hot issue at the moment, according to a representative from Unbiased.co.uk.

Karen Barrett, chief executive of the company, admitted that pensions can be complicated, so it is no surprise that many people are seeking help on the topic.

Her comments were made after Unbiased.co.uk revealed that 54 per cent of consumers utilising its Find An IFA service in October were looking for advice on retirement savings.

"With so many pension announcements being made by the government in October, now more than ever, people are thinking about their pension options and what is available to them," said Ms Barrett.

She stressed that the issue will be particularly pertinent for people nearing the retirement age.

This week, Saga's director general Dr Ros Altmann criticised the government's decision to raise this threshold again for women, announcing that she will call on the state to rethink its proposals.

She described it as unfair that females are not being given enough time to prepare for the changes.
