Insurance for young drivers customers offered tips by AA

The AA has given motorists a series of recommendations if they are going to drive in the snow over the Christmas period.

Simon Douglas, director of the firm's insurance division, urged drivers to be careful when planning journeys.

He suggested it may be wise to stick to main roads, since there is more chance they will be gritted.

Mr Douglas said: "If the police in your area are advising drivers not to travel then it is sensible to heed that advice and monitor the situation locally."

The AA insurance representative also told motorists to leave a gap of about ten seconds between their own car and the vehicle in front, as this will minimise the risk of a collision caused by the icy road surface.

Earlier this month, the organisation revealed that the recent cold snap in the UK led to a 23 per cent spike in insurance claims for the week leading up to December 5th.
