DAF urges consumers to seek debt relief early

It is important that people take action as early as possible when it comes to debt problems, according to an expert from the Debt Advice Foundation (DAF).

David Roger, managing director of the organisation, pointed out that money issues will only magnify over time, so it is vital that individuals seek guidance as soon as they start experiencing serious financial worries.

He advised anyone in this situation that they should try and cut back on any unnecessary spending, look for any potential savings and reign in the use of credit cards and other forms of borrowed cash.

"If the pressure of Christmas spending and mounting debts has made you feel you are at the point of no-return, it's important to seek free, confidential and impartial advice," added Mr Roger.

His comments follow the publication of research by Santander indicating leftover credit card debt after Christmas is estimated to be £1.1 billion among UK consumers.
