Platform says remortgage deals set to be a focus

Consumers could see more remortgage deals from intermediary lenders in 2011, Platform has suggested.

Lee Gladwell, business development manager at the company, noted that the economic environment is still uncertain, but this has not stopped a lot of brokers feeling optimistic about the home finance industry over the coming 12 months.

"Remortgage and buy to let business is set to be a focus for intermediaries throughout the course of 2011 and it is important for lenders to support them," he said.

Mr Gladwell's comments were made after Co-operative Financial Services and Platform unveiled a report showing 40 per cent of brokers believe remortgaging is set to be the biggest opportunity for sales this year.

The same study showed the balance of professionals from the sector who saw an increase in business increased from +28 in the third quarter of 2010 to +35 in the following three months.

Recent research indicated the extent of the money troubles faced by consumers in the UK, with 28 per cent of the public spending more each month than they are earning.
