New Halifax fixed rate mortgage 'to hold real appeal'

Consumers are likely to be very interested in a new Halifax fixed rate mortgage, according to a source from the firm.

Stephen Noakes, commercial director for mortgages at the company, claimed the home finance proposition could hold "real appeal" for many individuals.

The Halifax two-year fixed arrangement at up to 75 per cent loan to value (LTV) with interest at 4.24 per cent features no product, valuation or conveyancing fees.

"We know that homeowners are weighing up their options - considering whether now is the right time to remortgage, or which type of product to opt for," added Mr Noakes.

Two more mortgages were launched by the lender for people who only require 60 per cent LTV - a two-year fix at 3.14 per cent interest and a two-year tracker at 2.49 per cent.

Both feature product fees of £995.

This month, Halifax housing economist Martin Ellis predicted interest rates to stay low for "some time".
