Skipton lauds option to switch to fixed rate mortgage

Two new five-year tracker deals have been lauded by a representative from Skipton Building Society as a result of the company's 'switch and fix' capabilities.

William Gill, senior product manager at the firm, highlighted how customers can take advantage of the low interest rates on the home finance arrangements and simply swap them for a fixed rate option when the base rate begins to increase.

"We recognise the anxiety many borrowers feel amid continued market uncertainty and with the prospect that interest rates may start to rise," he said.

Mr Gill made his comments regarding two Options base rate trackers available at up to 80 per cent loan to value, with one featuring interest at +2.99 per cent and the other +3.19 per cent.

The former involves a completion fee of £995, while the latter does not.

This week saw a first-time buyer summit hosted by housing minister Grant Shapps take place, with Council of Mortgage Lenders director general Michael Coogan praising the MP for taking the step.
