Savers must adapt to retirement calculator changes, says Barclays

With several important changes to the pension system due to be introduced soon, Barclays has urged people to alter their investment strategy accordingly.

Catherine Penney, vice president of the company's Stockbrokers arm, urged individuals to utilise a range of products, including tax-privileged options such as Isas.

She explained that this will help savers boost their retirement income and deliver greater flexibility.

Barclays Stockbrokers research demonstrated that 57 per cent of people will contribute the same amount or more this year as they did during the previous 12 months, despite the changes to the tax-free threshold.

Ms Penney added: "It is crucial that investors remember the long-term importance of saving into a pension and ensure that they have adequate funds to provide for their retirement."

This week, Zurich launched an interactive guide to help intermediaries to explain the changes being made to the pension system to their clients and describe how to avoid paying too much tax.
