Credit card debt consolidation may follow wedding costs, finds Halifax

People planning to attend a wedding this summer could end up needing credit card debt consolidation if they do not keep an eye on costs, a Halifax survey has suggested.

The price of spending time with a happy couple on their big day cost Brits an average of £900 a year, the research found.

With people attending an average of two weddings every 12 months, the £111 spend on accommodation and travel, coupled with £106 on clothes and £81 on gifts is doubled up.

In addition, there are further costs relating to the reception and the stag or hen do.

Flavia Palacios, head of Halifax Savings products, said the joyous events can quickly add up.

"So that you can afford the wedding season in your life, it is important to have a regular, established savings habit in place," Ms Palacios added.

Halifax recently announced it was making using its credit cards more straightforward by improving transparency over its charges.
