MBNA launches contactless credit cards with American Express branding

MBNA customers could benefit from plans to launch American Express-branded contactless credit cards in the UK.

The cards have emerged as a result of the bank's intentions to issue the new technology to all of its members in the country.

Customers should expect the arrival of the product, which works by touching the card across payment terminals, by the end of 2012.

Cardholders who find themselves to be victims of fraud are fully protected by MBNA, which limits payments to up to £15 per transaction.

Debra Davis from American Express Global Network Services said people "will be able to enjoy the ease and convenience of contactless payments together with the customised benefits and services on their American Express-branded cards".

MBNA also offers customers a promotional rate of 5.9 per cent when they apply for the Rate For Life credit card online.

Designed for people who want to consolidate high interest debts on a lower rate over a long period, the card charges a handling fee of 1.5 per cent on all balance transfers within the first 60 days.
