Families should take advantage of workplace pensions, says Aviva

Aviva has urged families to take advantage of opportunities to sign up to workplace pension schemes.

Recent research from the insurance group revealed that just 28 per cent of people are currently paying in to a workplace pension for use upon their retirement.

However, 74 per cent of family heads claimed they would be more likely to do so if their contributions were matched by their employer.

The findings, collected as part of the Aviva Family Finances report, indicated that most families believe affordability is the primary reason they have not taken out a pension.

Aviva's head of pensions marketing Paul Goodwin claimed that although families may have the funds available, they are choosing to prioritise them elsewhere.

He said: "All parties concerned - the government, product providers, employers and employees themselves - need to work hard to ensure that auto-enrolment is a success."

The insurance company recently conducted a survey which revealed that unsecured debt among families with children has increased since January.
