Women 'confused about pensions age'

One in five women are unaware of the retirement age, with many thinking they will receive a state pension by the age of 60, a new report has revealed.

Research conducted by Age UK has revealed that a number of females are confused about the age they will leave their jobs.

With the current age for retirement standing at 65, many participants could be shocked by government proposals to keep people in employment until they are 68 years old.

Conducted as part of the charity's Not Enough Time report, the research uncovered a gap in the knowledge of women about their plans for the future.

Michelle Mitchell, charity director for the organisation, said: "Age UK is calling on MPs to stop the speeding up of state pension age equalisation for women and not increase it beyond 65 until after 2020."

Research conducted by the charity earlier this year revealed that more than 80 per cent of unpaid carers were concerned about cuts to services for the elderly.
