Santander brings banking call centres back to UK

Banking customers who have experienced frustration over limited help from overseas call centres could welcome news from Santander.

The company has today (July 8th) announced plans to move its helpline facilities back to the UK, which is set to create 500 jobs in the industry.

After relocating to India in 2003, the call centre move comes following customer feedback revealed offshore assistance can lead to dissatisfaction.

Overall, Santander's UK call centres - located in Glasgow, Leicester and Liverpool, employ 2,500 staff to deal with 1.5 million enquiries per month.

Ana Botin, the company's chief executive, said: "We have listened to the feedback and have acted by re-establishing our call centres back here."

Earlier this month, Santander announced the launch of a range of structured products for customers looking for a capital return if held for the full term.

As part of the limited edition offer, members of the public have been urged to visit one of the company's branches in a bid to gain more information.
