Skipton Building Society launches new competitive savings account

A new savings account from Skipton Building Society has been launched today (August 15th) offering four per cent AER interest.

The provider's new limited edition Regular Saver account will offer the interest payments on monthly deposits of up to £300, but prohibits withdrawals from the first 12 months of opening.

However, it is available to both new and existing customers with no prior qualifications needed and with no conditions of taking out other products, "unlike similar accounts by other providers", the building society claimed.

Kris Brewster, Skipton's head of products, added: "This is yet another great value savings product from Skipton and, once again, we expect it to be very popular with our customers."

He added that people would need to take up the opportunity fast as it is being offered on "a first come, first served basis".

According to research from First Direct earlier this month, a general lack of knowledge over the state of their savings exists in Britons. While almost half of people hold a savings account, 36.9 per cent did not know how much it earned in interest.
