Lower age of travellers increases need for insurance, claims Post Office

Comprehensive travel insurance for families going on holiday is increasingly vital, according to the Post Office.

The development of international travel over the last 50 years has increased the likelihood of children flying ever-more long distances to exotic regions as well as impacting on the way in which holidaymakers prepare for their getaways, with insurance policies now a key part of family preparations.

Head of travel insurance at the Post Office Sarah Munro explained that travel is never without risk and it is therefore "understandable that parents [worried] about all the 'what ifs' when going abroad".

She added: "Travel insurance is essential to ensure you and your family have the best protection if something does go wrong."

With many students planning a gap year at this time, financial research company Defaqto advised young people to carefully research the terms of the travel insurance policies available to them, as they could vary considerably and often apply excesses on a 'per section' basis.
