Employer contributions 'help pensions grow'

Individuals who have the opportunity to have their employer contribute towards their pension savings should do so, Brits have been advised.

Tony Attubato, head of dispute resolution at the Pensions Advisory Service, said at the very least, people should consider the benefits of having their employer help towards their retirement funds, as this often results in other benefits like tax relief on contributions they make themselves.

He argued: "Having a comfortable retirement will largely depend on how much you can save now. It is obvious but true, the larger your pension pot - the more income you will have in retirement."

According to recent comments by Mr Attubato, planning is key to ensuring individuals are able to build up a big enough nest egg to ensure they have a comfortable retirement.

He added that pensions can be notoriously complex and therefore it is always prudent to receive professional advice when planning savings.
