Brits 'should consider alternative pension options'

Individuals planning for their retirement have been urged to consider alternative pension options in the present financial climate in order to boost their savings pots for the future.

Annie Shaw, founder of Cashquestions.com, said being realistic is important for Brits. For example, if people are saving for a deposit but know they will never actually afford to own a home, then that money could actually be better utilised in a pensions pot.

She commented: "The important thing is that people do need to save somewhere, but it doesn't need to have a big label on it saying pension - that is just one of the ways to save [for retirement]."

John Perks, LV= managing director of retirement solutions, also recently argued older Brits in particular may benefit from reassessing their pensions plans over the coming years, as increases in the retirement age will mean many people have to work longer for lower pensions in the future.
