Simon Collins Product, technical manager at John Charcol, the firm's November residential purchases data showed a rise from the previous month, with 57 per cent of business submitted going through.
This flies in the face of many analyst's views that the market is stagnating at present and highlights the fact that there remains considerable options for mortgage borrowers at the moment.
He commented: "The figure was also up over ten per cent on the same month last year, and would suggest that despite much of the reported negativity in the housing market there are still deals to be done."
The latest data published by the Financial Services Authority revealed that mortgage borrowing rose by 0.2 per cent during the last quarter, standing at £44 billion.
