Money 'causes daily stress for 15 million Brits'

Personal finance has been revealed as the top cause of stress for UK people, with 15 million people claiming they deal with money worries every day.

Research from moneysupermarket.com indicated that the strain of dealing with debts and other financial issues is taking its toll on Britons, as stress relating to these problems currently outweighs worries about health, employment and relationships.

The survey also found that 76 per cent of people expect their financial stresses to worsen in 2012, due to the high cost of living.

Kevin Mountford, head of banking at the price comparison site, said the current outlook is for the new year to be "just as tough, if not tougher" than 2011.

However, he also urged people to review their situation and see where they can make savings by switching to different products or reducing expenditure in certain areas.

"For those who are worried about their finances, it is vital to tackle the issue head on," the expert commented.

A survey published by gocompare.com this week revealed that sorting out finances is the most common new year's resolution being made by British people this year.
