Not saving 'is biggest financial concern'

Failing to put aside enough money for a rainy day has become the top concern for Brits in terms of their financial wellbeing, it has been revealed.

According to research carried out by First Direct, not saving enough has overtaken last year's number one concern, with 52 per cent of respondents saying this is their biggest money worry of 2012 - pushing paying off debts into second place with 33 per cent.

Bruno Genovese, head of savings at the company, commented: "The earlier people start to plan their finances and look to the future, the better their long-term financial position will be."

He added that January is the perfect month for people to make a fresh start to their financial planning.

Figures compiled by gocompare.com also recently showed that almost half (49 per cent) of New Year's resolutions made over the last week were for individuals to be better with their money and to reduce their outgoings over the coming 12 months.
