Financial plans top New Year resolutions

People across the UK have been making New Year resolutions over the last week, with tackling financial issues some of the top priorities for Brits.

Research carried out by Skipton Building Society has shown that 40 per cent of Brits plan to make at least one financial commitment for the coming months, with saving more a bigger priority for people (27 per cent) than spending time with family (25 per cent), having more fun (23 per cent) and going on holiday (21 per cent).

Tracy Fletcher, head of corporate communications for Skipton, said: "There's no doubt that developing the disciplines of careful budgeting, cutting down on impulse spending and saving - rather than borrowing - for the things we want, makes every situation easier to cope with."

Data compiled by gocompare.com also revealed that 49 per cent of respondents to a recent survey claimed that getting their money under control and reducing outgoings will be their main goal for the next 12 months.
