Retirees 'to challenge work-shy youngsters'

A growing number of older retirees could be set to provide a challenge to young people across the UK in terms of employment opportunities, with many of this group eager to take on part-time and temporary roles.

Research from Aviva has shown 86 per cent of retirees believe they could do a better job than the present crop of young people. Furthermore, 67 per cent believe the younger generation moan too much about their work-life balance.

As a result, 63 per cent of retirees claim they would relish the opportunity to rejoin the workforce.

Clive Bolton, 'at retirement' director at Aviva, said: "As individuals face an increasingly challenging economic environment, it seems that for many the dream retirement is now one in which they can maintain their quality of life by remaining economically active."

Older people looking to supplement their retirement savings were recently advised by Lorreine Kennedy, founder of Carematters-uk.com, that equity release could be an option for them.
