Lloyds TSB says internet banking on the rise

Research by Lloyds TSB internet banking has revealed that consumer confidence in internet services has risen over the past few years.

The figures suggest that eight in ten internet users now say that they feel very confident or fairly confident using online banking services.

One in five respondents said that their confidence in the safety of online banking had improved significantly over the past few years while one in two said that their confidence had improved slightly.

There had been concerns that confidence had deteriorated in internet services after a number of “phishing” scams, where false e-mails are used to gather personal bank account details.

However, the latest figures from Lloyds TSB are clearly pleasing to online providers, with men in particular showing a steep rise in confidence.

Some 84 per cent of men are fairly or very confident about online banking compared to just over three quarters of women.

Matthew Timms, internet and ATM director Lloyds TSB said: "When we first launched our online service, many people thought that it was something only for the hi-tech generation but we now have over 1.8 million regular users and we’ve seen a 60 per cent increase in the number of transactions undertaken by customers online."

"Even though people might be worried about things like phishing scams, it’s great that so many internet users feel safe and secure banking online and we’re keen to keep it this way.”
