Cyclists urged to take out insurance

Following the London terrorist attacks and the ongoing hot and sticky summer, an increasing number of Britons are opting to cycle to work.

However, despite being environmentally friendly, good for health and fitness and often fun, the one thing many are forgetting about is insuring themselves adequately before stepping on the pedals.

Not only could the bicycle be stolen, but cyclists are also at risk of causing damage to themselves and others – actions which could result in financial loss if riders are not properly insured.

Furthermore, Richard Mason, director of insuresupermarket, explains: "If you are hit by somebody else and you are injured you made need to claim on this cover, especially if the third party is not properly insured."

While getting specialist insurance is one option, another is joining a cycling club that offers liability insurance as part of its membership.

Mr Mason concluded: "So whether you’re cycling to work or for pleasure in your spare time, make sure you’re properly insured."
