Alliance & Leicester interest rates to change

Alliance & Leicester has announced it will be changing its interest rates following the Bank of England (BoE) base rate cut last month.

The bank's Cash ISA's rate will change by 0.25 per cent to 4.75 per cent, but for customers on lower tiers it could change by up to 0.5 per cent.

However, due to the changes Alliance & Leicester's Direct ISA now offers better value for money, as it operates on a flat rate of 4.5 per cent.

The bank will be writing to customers notifying them of the changes and offering them a better paying account or a guarantee on the rate.

Stephen Leonard, director of savings & investments at the bank, said: "We are passing on the base rate cut to the vast majority of accounts. At the new rates these products remain competitive in the savings market."

The rates are effective from today and the changes will be advertised in the national press as well as in all Alliance & Leicester branches.
