Jupiter Japan Income Fund launched

Jupiter has launched the UK's first retail fund targeting the Japanese market, called the Japan Income Fund.

The Jupiter Japan Income Fund will be launched on September 15th, and will allow customers to invest in Japanese equities, with a view to gaining a yield of approximately 30 per cent a year above the Topix index yield.

This would equate to a yield of around two per cent in the first year.

Simon Somerville, manager of the Jupiter Japan Income Fund, said: "This is not the export-led growth of the past but a full-blown domestic recovery, helped by the reforms implemented by Premier Koizumi.

"He has implemented significant change in Japan and his landslide election victory is clearly a mandate for further restructuring."

And while profits and margins are at record levels in the land of the rising sun, share prices remain relatively low and affordable.

Mr Somerville concluded: "The Topix Index is still 55% below its peak of 2884 in 1989 and companies are trading on a P/E ratio of 17. There are clearly tremendous opportunities for investors to make positive returns over the long term."
