Alliance & Leicester Premier current accounts to be restructured

Alliance & Leicester has restructured its Premier current account range, in line with the changing market and customers' feedback.

The old Premier Plus account has been given a new name, Premier Direct, to reflect the direct self-service offered by Alliance & Leicester with this account, while the branch-based Premier account retains its name.

Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct customers can avail of the "UK's lowest overdraft rate" of just 5.9 per cent for both unauthorised and authorised borrowing, following a 12 month interest free overdraft.

Simon Ripton, current accounts manager at Alliance & Leicester said: "These changes are all about choice for the customer.

"Customers can choose which of our accounts suits their preferences, rather than according to their income, as both now have the same monthly funding amount."

The monthly funding now stands at £500 for both the Premier and Premier Direct account.

However, the Premier Direct account no longer offers travel insurance – the account will instead by focused on rates.
