Standard Life Discounted Gift Plan launched

The Standard Life Discounted Gift Plan has been the latest in a range of inheritance tax (IHT) products launched to offer IHT solutions.

The product has been designed for people wishing to give money as a gift to a trust.

It works by issuing a cheque upon death, which must happen within seven years of opting for the plan, which is less than the original amount – hence the name "discount".

This "discount" means that IHT will be reduced, and depends on the health, age and sex of customers.

Julie Hutchison, of Standard Life, said that more information would be available: "We really want to demystify this IHT plan for customers and will be making available a Customer Brochure to illustrate how the plan works."

The Standard Life Discounted Gift Plan joins the Access and Option Plan, the Loan Plan and the Gift Plan in the provider's range of IHT solution products.
