AA Savings: Britons secret Christmas savers

Many Britons are saving money for Christmas presents in secret, according to a new survey from AA Savings.

Almost 66 per cent of savers said they kept quiet about what they're hoarding their money for, while eight per cent said they kept their partner totally in the dark when it comes to money-related issues.

Lloyd East of AA personal finance said this was a positive sign for savers: "While growing personal debt is a worry, this survey perhaps shows that people are saving to meet the cost of expensive purchases."

But when it comes to festive affairs, the Welsh are the most open, with only one per cent admitting that they save in secret.

On the other hand, Scots seem to be the most romantic, with almost half saying they save in secret to buy a present for someone they love.
