Old Mutual Select Smaller Companies Fund performs well

The Old Mutual Select Smaller Companies Fund has been named the UK's top fund for smaller companies.

It has delivered a return of 24.4 per cent, compared to the 13.4 per cent for the sector median.

Over the long term, the Old Mutual Select Smaller Companies Fund has been placed in the top decile for the last four years.

It has also been ranked first in its sector since its launch in February 2001.

Daniel Nickols, manager of the fund, said: "This year's performance has been driven by continued stockpicking success.

"This is a well diversified portfolio and returns have been broad based with no stock, sector or theme dominating."

For the future, Mr Nickols hopes to find more companies that conform to the portfolio, including ones that have the potential for re-rating or that produce superior profit growth.
