The Leeds Direct Saver Plus account has been launched and offers customers a rate of 4.8 per cent gross per annum.

Savers will benefit from the guaranteed rate of return and the instant access they will have to their money.

Furthermore, if the Bank of England rate rises above 4.8 per cent, savers will receive the higher rate.

Karen Wint, head of marketing at Leeds Building Society, said: "Many customers see this account as an integral part of their investment portfolio."

She went on to say that as the account is very popular and will be available for a limited time only.

Savers must have a minimum operating balance of £5,000 and interest is paid on the date of maturity, which stands at January 31st 2007.
