Halifax Travel Insurance: skiers beware of bingeing

Britain's holiday skiers are exporting binge drinking to the slopes, Halifax Travel Insurance has said.

Over a million Brits go on winter sports holidays every year and a majority of them say they hit the slopes after drinking, resulting in about eight per cent ending up injured, research by the bank has shown.

Among skiers and snowboarders, 86 per cent have gone down the slopes feeling "worse for wear". Male skiers drink an average of 100 alcohol units a week on winter sports holidays, three and a half times the national average.

Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter at Halifax Travel Insurance, said: "It's important that people remember to limit their drinking to sensible levels while enjoying their winter sports holidays – especially as the majority of travel insurance policies will exclude accidents which occur whilst the policyholder is under the influence."

Halifax Travel Insurance urged holidaymakers to make sure they are covered for medical and personal accident cover in case something would happen on the slopes this winter.
