Around four out of five have banned parties over the holidays, with over a quarter citing expenses as the major reason for having turkey and mulled wine alone, research conducted by the company found.
However, 14.7 per cent of homeowners said that risk of damage to their houses was the reason why they shut the door on the year's biggest party season.
Phil Loney, managing director at Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: "It is little wonder jingle bells are turning to alarm bells when it come to hosting a party at home.
"With the risk of damage to carpets, curtains and furniture increasing when spirits are raised, more and more of us are unwilling to add the cost of domestic repairs to the final bill for Christmas celebrations."
He advised homeowners to check that their home contents insurance is in place before deciding on whether to party or not to party over the holidays.
