Saga Travel Insurance: Delays cause losses

Almost half of all travellers leave their insurance decision for the last minute and risk losing money if their trip gets cancelled, Saga Travel Insurance warns.

Nearly 40 per cent of holidaymakers wait until the month of their departure to decide on their cover and could lose lots of money as a result.

Research conducted by Saga Travel Insurance shows that 35 per cent of insurance claims are for unexpected cancellation.

Some ten per cent of over 50s are happy to try more adventurous activities on holiday, including snowboarding and mountain climbing, according to the survey.

Andrew Goodsell, Saga chief executive, said: "Today's over 50s are more prepared than ever before to learn a new skill and take on demanding and physically challenging pursuits.

"Our advice to anyone planning a holiday is to ensure that insurance is in place as soon as you have booked your holiday."

Saga specialises in services for people older than 50 and also produces a popular magazine and holiday packages.
