Sainsbury's Credit Cards wants interest-free Christmas

Much Christmas shopping was left to the last minute and boosted spending on cards, Sainsbury's Credit Cards has said.

Almost half (42.8 per cent) of adults intended to go shopping on Christmas Eve, spending to the tune of £1.59 billion, research by the bank predicted.

An estimated 19 per cent of this sum was to be placed on credit cards, totalling £300 million.

Donald MacLeod, Sainsbury's credit cards manager, said: "A card with a long interest-free period can be a good way to spread the cost of Christmas."

Sainsbury's credit cards include the Bank Standard and the Platinum, which offer an introductory zero per cent annual percentage rate on purchases for ten months.
