Mint Standard card deal lauded

Changes to the Mint Standard card and its sister Gold and Platinum cards have been applauded by analysts.

Nick White, head of personal finance at price comparison website uSwitch, said that Mint had "kicked off 2006 with a cracker of an offer".

The Mint Standard card offers an introductory zero per cent annual percentage rate for balance transfers, cheques and purchases, as do the Gold and Platinum cards.

"For consumers looking to consolidate their Christmas debts, this seems like an ideal solution as they could save over £585 if they transfer a balance of £3,115," Mr White said.

Richard Mason, director of credit cards at price comparison website Moneysupermarket, lauded the "breath of fresh air" from Mint in the new year.

However, he warned customers to be careful about any spending past next November since the zero per cent respite would not apply to it.

The Mint Standard card deal comes with a balance transfer fee of two per cent, which is capped at £49.
