Halifax One credit card tops list

The Halifax One credit card has been ranked as best on the market by the financial information service Moneynet.

The card's interest-free period of 12 months and its zero per cent on purchases for three months put it ahead of competitors, the service said.

Moneynet research shows that there are still some good deals on the market despite the increase in cards that charge fees for transferring balances.

Richard Bron, Moneynet chief executive, said: "For consumers wanting to spread the cost of this traditionally expensive time of year, switching debt to a zero interest card can make sound financial sense – but some cards offer better terms than others, so it is important to get it right at the outset."

Mint is hot on the heels of the Halifax One credit card with ten months interest-free and a lower standard rate of interest. The Post Office offers six months interest-free and no fee.
