The One Account urges new year savings

Around 95 per cent of Britons admit to overspending during December, according to new research from the One Account.

Many people wish to cut small luxuries to save money in the new year, with 25 per cent saying that they would give up fast food.

The findings show that 22 per cent hope to give up on chocolate in 2006, compared with the 21 per cent who hope to abandon crisps or cigarettes.

However, the One Account says that a better savings option would be to switch to an all-in-one account so that savings can be seen over the long term.

Debbie Milson from the One Account said: "People should look at their larger expenses, like their mortgage. It's definitely worth taking some time out in 2006 to reassess your provider."

She added that customers' savings could be used to offset their mortgage by switching to the One Account.
