Select ski insurance in price comparison

Select ski insurance has been put to the test in a run-down of winter holiday cover.

The policy was compared to FlexiCover Direct and that of several other providers as the winter sports season is setting in.

A 30-year-old male skiing in France for a week would get the Select ski insurance at a £23.40 premium. The policy covers medical expenses up to £10 million and personal accidents up to £25,000, the comparison shows.

By comparison, the FlexiCover insurance came with a cheaper £16.34 premium but covered medical expenses to £5 million.

However, online service insuresupermarket.com, which provided the run-down, warned skiers and snowboarders to make sure that they shop around for cost-effective cover.

Richard Mason, director at insuresupermarket.com, said: "Don't assume that all travel policies are the same, or that they will cover you for everything that might go wrong."

Basing himself on the run-down, Mr Mason added that "the majority of best value winter sports cover isn't available via the high street travel agent or with any of the big, well-known names".

Travellers can save money and still get a comprehensive policy by going online, he concluded.
