Halifax Home Insurance: Lonely homes at risk

Britons who leave their homes unoccupied for 30 consecutive days or more could cause their insurance to become invalid for potential claims, a leading insurer has warned.

New research from Halifax Home Insurance has found that over half a million homes are left unattended for such periods of team every year.

Britons could be left paying up for burst pipes or burglaries when they return from an extended leave.

Homeowners are thus urged to check their policy to ensure they are covered for the duration of their absence.

Vicky Emmott, senior underwriting manager at Halifax Home Insurance, has issued some final advice: "Homes are increasingly vulnerable when left unoccupied so householders should take sensible steps - such as putting lights onto a timer switch - to make the property look lived in and minimise the risks they face."
