New Star Select Opportunities Fund “keen” on China

Patrick Evershed, the manager of the New Star Select Opportunities Fund, has spoken about investment possibilities in China for the coming year.

Mr Evershed said he remains "keen" on the country for many reasons.

"Despite the fact that the economy is growing exceptionally strongly at the moment, the stock market fell significantly last year. This has produced some very good value in the Chinese market," he commented.

Mr Evershed went on to say that 2006 could see the market boosted by "a good rise in profits".

Furthermore, the manager of the New Star Select Opportunities Fund went on to comment that that Chinese economy has strengths where the UK has weaknesses.

"The Chinese market should start to benefit from the increased monetary liquidity, which has started to flow into the financial markets," he concluded.
