AA Personal Loans Deals on Wheels report published

The findings of an AA Personal Loans Deals on Wheels report have been revealed.

Findings from the survey claim that despite London's lack of open spaces, drivers in the capital are more likely to buy an off-road vehicle than anywhere else in the country.

According to the research, one in six Londoners buying a new car in 2006 will buy a 4x4, 22 per cent will buy a family car and 11 per cent will opt for an executive vehicle.

Drivers in the north of England and Scotland, however, are more likely to buy smaller, more economical transport, the report claims.

General manager of AA Financial Services Lloyd East said: "When you consider the volume of traffic in London it is almost counter-intuitive that drivers in the capital opt for large vehicles traditionally associated with rougher terrain."

The research for the AA Personal Loans Deals on Wheels report was conducted in January 2006 among 2,000 members of the public.

Department for Transport figures released in 2004 stated that the average traffic speed at peak time was just 9.9 miles per hour (mph) in Central London and 15 mph in Greater London.
